White’s Matrix M6 Metal Detector - $350 (Ripon) While the Fisher 1210X was a good detector, I missed the Whites 5000D series 3 that I had owned, so in 1988 not wanting to spend too much but still get a Whites, I got a new 3900DX Pro (8).

All designed to work with Concentric coils and all with available DD coils, and in every case the performance with factory-produced or aftermarket DD coils has been less accurate and/or consistent. Other sources, typically high-power transmission lines, can be a full-time cause for EMI. My all-time favorite Whites detectors include the MXT Pro/All-Pro, XLT, IDX Pro, Classic ID, 6000 Pro XL/XL Pro and MX5. Some high-power sources are only periodic and once I figured out when they were not causing a problem is when I hunted near them. Simple fact, a really bad EMI source is just that, a really bad source. It kind of worked but overall didn't handle really bad EMI. When I worked at Compass Electronics they tried to shield one model using copper plates or a copper-type of foil. Curious what detector and coil you are using.
